Dear Funeral Directors & Professionals,
With almost 15 months under our belt as publishers of Mississippi Valley Publishing, we are reviewing all policies, rates and procedures for our publications.
As a result, we are changing the policy defining free and paid obituaries, equalizing obituary rates among all our news products, and increasing the cost of photos accompanying all obituaries.
Effective March 1, only death notices and service notifications will be free in the Keokuk Gate City, Fort Madison app and Hancock County Journal Pilot, All obituaries will cost 18 cents per word. The cost of each photo accompanying an obituary will be $15.
Examples of free death notices and service notifications are:
appJohn Doe, 72, Montrose, died at 7:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, 2018, at his home. Arrangements are pending at (name of funeral home.)app
appServices for John Doe, 72, Montrose, who died Monday, Feb. 12, 2018, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, at the United Methodist Church in Montrose with Rev. Roger Todd officiating. Burial will be Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison.app
We believe this will simplify the policy for you as well as our news staff charged with compiling obituaries for the three newspapers.
Deadlines for submitted obituaries to the Gate City and app will remain the same app 4 p.m. Sundays (for Monday papers) and holidays; and 6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday.
