More details have been released about a man arrested following a police pursuit that began in Missouri and ended in Lee County last week.
Anthony Leonard Jackson, 19, of New Orleans, was arrested by the Lee County Sheriff°®¶¹app Office and charged with second-degree burglary (class C felony), second-degree theft, second-degree attempted burglary (class D felonies), and interference with official acts (simple misdemeanor).
Just after 11:30 a.m. On July 3, Lee County Sheriff deputies responded to a camper fire at Highway 27 and 320th Street, which required the northbound lane of the highway to be shut down and backed up the southbound lane, according to a criminal complaint.
Around that time, the Missouri State Patrol reported a police pursuit of a stolen black BMW heading northbound on Highway 27 heading into Lee County.
The BMW drove into the stopped traffic, rear-ending a Dodge Dakota before coming to a stop in a ditch.
Police say Jackson then ran from the scene with a firearm, the complaint states.
One witness told police Jackson approached them in their car, banged on the car window, told them to let him in their car and that he had a gun, but ran off when the witness would not let him inside the car, according to the complaint.
Police say Jackson then approached another car on the passenger side, knocked on the window, said he had a gun, reached him hand through a crack in the car window, unlocked the car, entered the car, told the driver again that he had a gun, and placed his hand in a bag he was holding before the driver fled the vehicle and ran down the highway, the complaint states.
Jackson then ran from the car and was arrested by police a short time later, but no gun was found in his possession, according to the complaint.
Police say Jackson shoved a K9 away as deputies were attempting to handcuff him, lied to law enforcement, and would not give his name.
Jackson is being held in custody on $15,000 cash-only bond.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. July 15 at the South Lee County Courthouse in Keokuk.
