The monthly meeting of the Hancock County Committee of New Illinois was called to order at 6:32 p.m. by Vice Chairman Todd Courtois. Officers in attendance were Vice Chairman Courtois, Senator John Hobart, Secretary Tony Koehler, and Assemblywoman Michelle Merritt, and five other members of the community. Michelle Merritt opened the meeting with prayer. The group then recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
The minutes were read from the May 27, meeting. A motion was made and seconded to approve the report as presented. Motion carried.
Secretary Koehler reported that we have a balance of $650, as reported by Treasurer Limkemann by text. A motion was made and seconded to approve the report. Motion carried.
Michelle Merritt and John Hobart talked about the Constitution Committee activity. They are still meeting twice per month and met Sunday evening. The committee is currently working through the second pass and considering written suggestions that they have received from other New Illinois members. A discussion on term limits (which are not in the Constitution) was had and a Heritage Foundation study on term limits was discussed.
Senator Hobart reported that they are working on procedures, Senate Rules and information regarding grievances.
Senator Hobart reported that the previous chair of the Law Research and Review Committee has resigned because he is running for Attorney General. Donald Glenn may be taking over as chair. Some new members of the committee are sharing some new ideas for the committee and the feeling is that this committee is being rejuvenated.
The Assembly did not have a quorum at it°®¶¹app last meeting, so there was nothing to report.
Chairman Mulch could not attend this meeting because he is at a meeting in Warren County. He expects people from Warren, Henderson, Knox and Fulton Counties to be in attendance. This meeting is at the Warren County Courthouse at 6:30 p.m.
John Hobart still has New Illinois car magnets left for sale.
A motion and a second to adjourn was made at 6:58 p.m. Motion carried.
Any organization that would like to learn more with a presentation is encouraged to contact a committee member or Chairman Mulch.
Our 8th Constitutional Convention will be held in Bloomington on Nov. 14 and 15. All residents are welcome to attend and learn about your legal right under the U.S. Constitution to form a new state.
The next meeting of Hancock County New Illinois will be held Tuesday, July 22, at 6:30 p.m. at the Hancock County Courthouse, Room 201 in Carthage, Illinois. (If room 201 is locked, come upstairs to the big courtroom)
Respectfully submitted,
